Boyle Community Games - AGM Friday 21st October 2011

Boyle Community Games will hold its Annual General Meeting on Friday 21st October in the Boyle GAA Clubhouse.
The meeting will review the 2011 programme and decide the events to be included in the 2012 Boyle Community Games. Any clubs or organisations that would like particular events included in next years calendar should attend this AGM.
Community support for the success of these games is vital, your attendance and input would be gratefully appreciated.

Well done and congratulations to Kate Murphy who won the Bronze Medal in Gymnastics at The National Finals of The Community Games held in Athlone last weekend. Kate participated in the Girls U-8 Gymnastics Floor Event.
She was one of three children from Boyle who represented Roscommon in Gymnastics. Enda Carr took part in the Boyls U-12 and Orla Keville - Girls U-14 events.
Well done to all participants, it is indeed an honour to have local children representing Roscommon at National level.

National Community Games Finals 2011

The National finals for many community games events will take place this coming weekend in Athlone and all the remaining events will then take place the following weekend - 20th & 21st August.

Over both weekends, eight young people from Boyle will represent Roscommon and travel to The John McCormack Centre on the campus of Athlone IT. Three young gymnasts, this weekend will be competing in the National Finals, Kate Murphy in the Under-8, Enda Carr in the Under-12 and Orla Keville in the under-14.

The following weekend one of the main community games events, Athletics, will also take place in the Athlone. The Boyle girls Under-12 relay team, who won gold at county level, will be representing Roscommmon. The relay team comprise of Mary Ellen Halligan, Aoife Valentine, Ruth Cox and Sinead Glennon.
Finally, Sarah Halligan will be representing Roscommon in the Under-16 girls 1500 metres.

We would sincerely like to wish all of the participants the very best of luck. Many thanks for all of your effort and hard work in reaching the National finals, we really hope that you enjoy the expierence.

Church Gate Collection
€840.00 was collected at the annual Community Games church gate collection last month. Many thanks for all the collectors who helped out on the day and sincere thanks to all who generously contributed on the day.

Great Success for Boyle in Ballaghadreen and Ballyleague

Boyle competitors bring home the medals as Summer Calendar of events draw to a close

The summer calender of Community Games events came to a close for Boyle competitors last night. The final event was gymnastics and this was held in Ballaghadreen just last night. This event was preceeded by a very busy and successful weekend of athletics in Ballyleague, where 35 young people from Boyle took part in various track events including relays. The Under 12 girls relay team did themselves proud by taking Gold and securing their place in the National Finals in Athlone in August. The team was made up of Sinead Glennon, Aoife Valentine, Mary Ellen Halligan and Ruth Cox. Mary Ellen's sister Sarah will be joining them in Athlone as she also took gold in the Under 16 girls 1500 metres. Ruth Cox also recieved a medal in her individual race, a silver medal in the under 12 600 metres.
Many of the competitors did very well in their heats and qualified for the finals on the day. Again a huge thanks to Jackie Valentine and Boyle Athletic Club for not only coaching the young people for the event but also working tirelessly on both days making sure every child was where they were meant to be for their race. No easy task!


Boyle featured very strongly in Ballaghadreen's gymnastics event. This is just the second year that Boyle has participated in gymnastics and they will be back for more!
Kate Murphy under 8 girls, Orla Keville under 14 girls and Enda Carr under 12 boys all received gold medals and will now represent Roscommon in the National Finals.
Aisling Feely under 8 girls, Katie Simon under 10 girls and Sinead Glennon under 12 girls all won silver medals.
Roseanna Callan under 10 girls, Shane Carr under 10 boys and Ciara Sherrin under 12 girls all got third place and bronze medals.

Well done to all the participants who have spent alot of time and effort training for this event it has certainly paid off.

Well Done to local Swimmers!

Eight swimmers represented Boyle in last weekends county finals. With some very steep competition Boyle faired very well, with all the entrants doing themselves proud.

Tara Duggan was placed second in Under 12 Breaststroke. David Boles receieved a silver medal in the Under 14 Freestyle and Max King brought home a bronze medal in the Under 10 Freestyle.

Well done to all of the competitors and many thanks to Siobhan Duggan for helping to coordinate this event.

Boyle athletes prepare for Ballyleague.

The County Athletic Track Finals, one of the Community Games major events, will be held this week in Ballyleague. It will be run over two days with relays and heats of longer distances taking place on Saturday the 18th June and finals of the longer distances and short
distances being run off on Sunday 19th June.

Thirty five young people from Boyle will be travelling to Ballyleague, marking Boyle's presence at this event. Under the guidance of coach Jackie Valentine and her team the competitors have been training on Wednesday evenings with Boyle Athletic Club.

Many thanks to Jackie for coaching and co ordinating this event which takes alot of time and effort. The very best of luck to all the young people.

Boyle Gymnasts prepare for County Finals

The County finals for Gymnastics wil now take place on the 21st June and not on the14th as previously advertised. The venue will be the Phoenix Centre Ballaghaderreen this is a change of venue from previous years.

This evening Boyle Community Games Gymnastics event was held.

Boyle Community Games Gymnastics will take place in Scoil na nAingeal Naofa on Friday 10th June at 6pm. The County Final will take place in Ballaghderreen on Tuesday 14th June.

Swimming

Boyle Community Games Annual Sports Day.

The Athletics Event has been rescheduled to Saturday the 14th May at 4.30 pm. It will be held in the Abbey College Sportsfield. 1st and 2nd place in each race will go forward to represent Boyle in the Roscommon County final in Ballyleague on 18th and 19th June. Your support for this event is needed.

"Garden birds, are they a help or a hindrance?" was the title of this years Under 11 Project. David Battles, Danny Funke, Enda Carr and Cillian Doyle travelled to Castlerea today representing Boyle with their project. After many weeks of work supported by their parents and their school St.Joseph's Boys School the boys were rewarded for their efforts by receiveing silver medals. They were beaten by only one point to Ballaghadreen. Well done lads!

Congratulations to Boyle U-16 girls Basketball team who beat Ardcarne 42-29 in their semi-final game on Saturday 16th April. Boyle will now play in the final on May 1st in Castlrea.

Art and Model-Making County Final

Art and Model Making Winners - County Roscommon Finals 2011

The County Final of Art and Model-Making took place on Saturday 2nd April in The Hyde Centre, Roscommon Town. 12 young people representing Boyle participated, ranging from ages Under 8 to Under 16. Huge numbers of children from all over the county competed and the standard was very high.
Boyle was very fortunate to take a Second place in the Under 16 Girls Art and 3rd place in the Under 16 Model-Making.
2nd place went to Linda Kasperane and Linda's sister, Laura Gendele took 3rd place in Model-Making. The girls attend the Abbey Community College and it was their first time to enter the community games. Well done to both girls and indeed to all the participants of this highly competitive community games category.

Basketball

Boyle have three teams entered in this category, Under 13 girls, Under 16 girls and Under 16 boys. Many thanks to their coaches, Joe Kennedy, Fergus O'Brien, Siobhan Conroy and Jackie Valentine. Jackie has also been instrumental in organising this event, many thanks for that Jackie.

Boyle U-16 Chess team take Gold at County Final

Boyle U-16 Chess team take Gold at County Final. Conor Flanagan, Mark Doherty, Dermot O'Driscoll, Emmet O'Driscoll, Sean Mullins and Sean Gannon will now represent Roscommon in the Connaught Finals after their success tonight.
Well done to all the lads and also to the team manager, Mark Finn. The Connaught finals take place on the 9th April.

Sliver Medal for U-14 Table Quiz Team at County Finals

29 teams participated in this year's U-14 Table Quiz County Finals which were held in Athleague on Friday 11th March. The event was won by our neighbouring parish, Croghan with Boyle taking second place and the Silver Medal. The recently formed Boyle team consisting of; Tara Duggan, Ronan Flanagan, Jonah Tighe, Cillian Doyle, Alan McAuley and Cliona McDermott, done us all proud. Their achievement is all the greater since this was their first outing at such an event, and amidst so many experienced competitors, there is no doubt that they have every reason to be proud. Our sincere congratulations to all participants. A special thanks to Martin Dolan who supported the team and to the parents and organisers of the event.

Model Making U-14 and U-16

Model Making for boys and girls U-14 and U-16 will take place in Abbey Community College this Thursday 10th March at 4pm.

Participants must be from the parish of Boyle.
The entry fee is €2.00.

County Cross-Country Relay - 26th February

The County Roscommon Cross-Country Relay race took place in Kilbride on Saturday 26th February. Two young Boyle athletes have done Boyle proud in qualifying for the county team. Ruth Cox qualified in the Under-12 category and Cory O'Donoghue qualified in the Under-13 category. Well done to you both and indeed well done to all the Boyle athletes who participated in this event.

ART, MODEL MAKING AND HANDWRITING FOR COMMUNITY GAMES

On Thursday next, February 24th, Boyle Community Games will host the Community competitions to select competitors for the County finals in Art, Model Making and Handwriting. The competitions will take place at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Hall.
The Art and Model Making competitions are open to U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14. The works produced must have a Community Games Theme and entrants should bring their own art materials.
The Handwriting Competition is for U-10’s.
Entry to each competition is €2.00 and entrants should bring a copy of their birth certificate to register.

Quiz Team Selection

On Thursday next, February 17th, Boyle Community Games will host a quiz night to select an Under 14 Table Quiz team to represent Boyle at the County finals. Boys and girls from Boyle parish who are under 14 on July 31st are eligible for selection.
The selection quiz will take place in St. Joseph’s Hall at 7p.m. Help build on the excellent results achieved by local schools in the recent Library quiz and Credit Union quiz and send Boyle’s best team to the Community Games County Final.
To register, entrants should bring a copy of their birth certificate and €2 entry fee.
