AGM - Friday 9th November 2012

Boyle Community Games AGM for 2012 will be taking place this Firday night, the 9th November at 8pm in Boyle GAA Clubhouse. All are welcome, this year sees changes to some events at national level, which will impact locally. So if you are interested in the ongoing sucess of Community Games in Boyle please attend.

MORE MEDALS FOR BOYLE AT COMMUNITY GAMES COUNTY FINALS

Boyle competitors success continues in the latest County Community Games Finals. Jack Kelly followed up his gold medal win in Boyle with a bronze medal in the U-12 Boys Ball Throw.

At the County Gymnastics final, which was held in Ballaghaderreen, Boyle had only three entrants but these young gymnasts came home with two gold and one silver medal. Clodagh Sheerin took gold in the U-8 competition with Roseanna Callan winning the U-10 gold medal followed by Aisling Feely in silver medal position. Clodagh and Roseanna will now go forward to Athlone in August to represent Roscommon in the National Finals. All three gymnasts are members of Carrick-on-Shannon gymnastics club and Boyle Community Games would like to thank their coaches for all the help and support in preparing the girls for their competitions.

County Field events yield success for Boyle!

It has been quite a number of years since Boyle has entered participants in the Field events category. This year saw the return of the 'Ball Throw' and the 'Long Puck' in Boyle. Last Friday evening, 22nd June, the County Finals were held in Taughmaconnell. Five young people from Boyle had qualified for the County Final. Cillian Doyle and Daire Cregg for the Long Puck, Jack Kelly and Cathal Feely for the Ball Throw and Sarah Duggan for the girls Ball Throw.
Jack Kelly won a bronze medal in the Ball Throw, well done to Jack and all of the participants.

BOYLE GYMNASTS OFF TO COUNTY FINAL

Boyle gymnasts recently competed at the area gymnastics competition to select representatives for the County final.
In the U-8 competition Clodagh Sheerin won gold with Caoimhe Cregg taking the silver.
Roseanna Callan won gold in the U-10 competition with Aisling Feely in the silver medal position and Arianna Lannon bringing home the bronze.
The gold and silver medal winners will compete in the county Final in Ballaghadereen on June 26th.

Boyle Community Games would like to thank Carrick-on-Shannon gymnastics club who hosted this competition and provided the judges.

Events Up-date

Athletics County Finals

Last Saturday the 2nd June, 30 young people and their families travelled to Ballyleague representing Boyle in the county finals of Athletics. All were participating in track events from under 8 up to under16. Doing themselves proud, seven retuned with medals.
Caoimhe Cregg won a silver medal in the U-8 80 metres. It was Caoimhe's first time in Ballyleague, it obviously didn't put her off!
Ruth Cox won a gold medal in the U-12 100 metres. Ruth will now go on to represent Roscommon in the National Finals in Athlone in August.
Sarah Halligan won a silver medal in the U-16 1500 metres and the U-13 mixed relay won bronze. The U-13 team was made up of Ruth Cox, Sinead Glennon, Kieran Calpin and David Battles.
Congratulations and well done to all the medal winners and indeed to all participants. Many thanks to Jackie Valentine for coordinating this event.
Next Friday evening, 8th June, the field events take place. Boyle have participants in the boys and girls ball throw and the boys long puck. So we wish them the very best of luck.

Gymnastics

The local gymnastics event will take place this Wednesday 6th June, in Carrick-on-Shannon Gymnastics Club and the county final takes place on 26th June in Ballaghadreen.

Boyle Quiz Team reap success at National finals!

Well done and a hearty congratulations to our local quiz team who have done themselves and their families proud by winning a bronze medal in last weekend's Community Games National Finals. Tara Duggan, Cillian Doyle, Johna Tighe and Ronan Flanagan with subs Matthew Callan and Alan McAuley under the guidance of coach Mary Doyle. In recent weeks they have put alot of time and effort into securing these medals and into representing Roscommon so admirably.

Despite very adverse weather conditions, high winds, below normal temperatures and the odd shower of rain thrown in for good measure Boyle's Community Games Annual Sports Day went ahead on Sunday May 13th.

Upcoming National Finals

The first of three National Finals for the Community Games will take place this weekend in Athlone. The focus will be the finals of the events from the Spring Calendar. Seven young people from Boyle will be representing County Roscommon. Six of whom are on the quiz team. Cillian Doyle, Tara Duggan, Ronan Flanagan and Jonah Tighe with subs Mathew Callen and Alan McAuley. This event is U-14 and while this is a young team, many of the members have participated in the national finals of this years Credit Union quiz and have the benefit of that experience.

The National Finals are nothing new to Ruth Cox. Two years ago Ruth won a gold medal in the U-10 600 metres and this weekend Ruth will be running as part of a mixed distance relay for U-12. We would like to wish them all the very best of luck and we hope that whatever the outcome, they all enjoy the expierence. Many thanks to Mary Doyle for coordinating the quiz team and to Jackie Valentine for coordinating all of the athletic events.

Boyle Community Games Athletics

The Annual Sports Day takes place on Sunday May 13th in the Abbey Community College football pitch at 3pm.
All Athletes finishing in first or second place will qualify for the county finals in Ballyleague on Saturday 2nd June for track events.
This year included in the line-up are two field events; the Long Puck and the Ball Throw. Both of these events are open to boys and girls U-12.

Up-Date April 15th 2012

Art
On Saturday 31st March, Diarmuid Sutton and Roisin O'Donnell Bradley both won bronze medals in the recent county finals in art. Diarmuid won his medal in the U-12 category and Roisin in the U-10 category. Art, like handwriting, draws interest from all parishes in the county and this is a very competitive event so well done to both Diarmuid and Roisin.

Project
The title for this years U-11 project was "Our Ideal Country". Boyle entered an all boys team. Shane Carr, Jack Murphy, Danny Funke and Diarmuid Sutton worked creatively to present there work on Sunday 15th April in Castlerea. The boys won a silver medal and did themselves proud.

Basketball
The Basketball competitions continue. After beating Castlerea last week Boyle's U-13 girls team are through to the county finals. The date for this county final has yet to be finalised. The U-11 mixed team were narrowly beaten by a strong Ballaghadreen team on 15th April.

Up-Date March 24th 2012

Basketball
Boyle have four teams competing in this year's Community Games County Competition. Boys U-16 and Girls U-16 have already gotten underway. Tomorrow the 25th March Boys U-16 play Ballaghadereen in the semi-final and on the same date Girls U-16 play Kilglass. The other teams that Boyle have competing are U-13 Girls and U-13 boys. Both teams will play their first games on April 1st, with the girls drawn against Croghan and the boys against Ballaghadereen.
Many thanks to all coaches and to Jackie Valentine for coordinating this event. We wish them lots of luck in their coming matches.

Talent
Shane Carr and Emma Scally will be dancing a 2-hand reel representing Boyle in the group dancing section of the Talent event tomorrow 25th March in Elphin.
While Sean, Maeve and Niamh Brogan will be competing in the group music section. It has been a while since Boyle has competed in this event so we wish them the best of luck.

Indoor Soccer
Many thanks to Geoff Henry who managed the indoor soccer event for Boyle Community Games this year. The event was U-13 and while the team was mainly made up of 10-year olds, they qualified to the quater finals where they were beaten 3-1. The vowed to be back next year!

Art
The date for the County finals of the Art event has been changed to 31st March. The venue remains the same; the Hyde Centre Roscommon.

Cross Country
Well done to Ruth Cox who won 2nd place in the county trials, and subsequently made the county relay team for U-13 in this event.

Well done to Emma Scally who came 3rd place in the County finals of Community Games Handwriting Competition. This competition is very competitive as most parishes in the county would have children participating in this event. Emma was in the Under 10 section and was one of 8 children representing Boyle on Saturday morning last in Kilbride.

BOYLE TEAMS TAKE GOLD AND BRONZE IN COUNTY FINAL

Last Friday nights Community Games Under 14 Quiz County final saw two Boyle teams in the medals. The Boyle A team of Killian Doyle, Ronan Flanagan, Tara Duggan and Jonah Tighe took first place. This team, who were narrowly beaten into second place at last years County final, led the other thirty one teams from the beginning of the quiz. The contest between the next four teams was tighter with the Boyle B Team of Alan McCauley, Matthew Callan, Cliona McDermott and Sean Brogan securing a bronze medal at their first time participating in the event. The winners will now represent County Roscommon in the National Community Games Final in Athlone in May. Boyle Community Games would like to acknowledge the support and co-operation of the teachers in Corrigeenroe N.S, St. Joseph's Boys National School and Scoil na nAingeal Naofa in helping to prepare their students for these quizzes.

BOYLE COMMUNITY GAMES - CHESS AND DRAUGHTS TRAINING

Training for those interested in competing in Draughts at U-10, U-12 & U-14 or Chess at U-16 will start on Saturday next, February 11th at 2.p.m. in St. Joseph's Resource Centre, Abbeytown.

If you are interested in taking part but are not able to make training on that date please e-mail your details to the Committee at boylecommunitygames@gmail.com.

County Chess finals are on Friday, March 2nd and Draughts Finals will take place on Saturday, March 31st.

BOYLE COMMUNITY GAMES ART, MODEL MAKING AND HANDWRITING COMPETITION

On Saturday February 11th, Boyle Community Games will host the Community Competitions to select competitors for the County Finals in Art, Model Making and Handwriting. The competitions will take place at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Resource Centre, Abbeytown.

The Art and Model Making competitions are open to U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14. The works produced must have a Community Games theme and entrants should bring their own art materials. The Handwriting Competition is for U-10’s.

Entry to each competition is €2.00. First and second place competitors will qualify for the County final which will be held in The Hyde Centre in Roscommon on March 24th.

Last Friday saw an enthusiastic group of young Boyle people gather to contest their places on this years Community Games Quiz teams. After seventy questions the eight contestants with the highest scores were deemed to have secured places on the two quiz teams which will represent Boyle at the county final on February 10th, in Athleague. The high scores achieved made this a very tight contest and expectations are high as the teams hope to improve on the silver medal Boyle won at last years County final.

Boyle Community Games AGM

The AGM for Boyle Community Games took place in October 2011.
During the meeting the events and activities for the previous year were discussed at length and many local individuals, clubs and organisations were thanked for their time and interest.

Two committee members stepped down, Yvonne Bonnici and Regina Finn offered their resignation and were thanked for their input down through the years. Four new members were elected and three new positions were created on the existing committee.

The Committee members are as follows for 2011 and 2012.

Table Quiz Under 14.

This year's selection process for a quiz team to represent Boyle in the County finals will take place this Friday night, the 27th January @ 7pm in the Resource Centre.

The County Final will then take place in Athleague on Friday the 10th February.

We would encourage any young person who is interested in General Knowledge to come along this Friday night and try out for the team.
This year we will be sending 2 teams of 4 on each team.

All participants must live in the parish of Boyle and be under 14 on the 31st of July2012.
Martin Dolan will be quizmaster on the night. Good Luck to all participants!
